Understand how resistance is selected

A selectorized machine typically uses a built-in weight stack and a selector pin. A plate-loaded machine uses separate weight plates placed on loading points. The terms describe the loading format; they do not establish the quality, suitability or ease of adjustment of a particular machine.

Precor’s strength portfolio separates selectorized, plate-loaded, cable and free-weight categories. Our catalogue likewise lets you filter by equipment format before comparing exact model references. A series name alone is not a complete specification.

Compare the whole user interaction

For each candidate, consider getting into position, adjusting the seat or pads, selecting resistance and leaving the machine. If your facility expects users unfamiliar with the equipment, consider how induction and instructions will be provided.

For plate-loaded equipment, include the task of collecting, carrying and returning plates in the layout review. For selectorized equipment, review the available stack and adjustment information. Neither format removes the need to check the actual movement and fit of the model.

Treat storage and clearances as part of the purchase

A plate-loaded station may need nearby storage and an allowance for accessing its loading points. Record which plates and accessories are included in the proposal; images sometimes show items that are specified separately.

Do not rank two machines by the smallest printed dimensions alone. A compact machine may still need considerable working clearance. Keep the manufacturer’s dimension order visible and obtain installation guidance before placing it close to a wall or another station.

Use the catalogue without over-reading it

On GYMTECTA, AM8, XMH and MCL provide selectorized options, while METTA1, METTA2, METTA5, XAL and much of XVS provide plate-loaded choices. XHA covers a broader equipment mix. Check the category on each product instead of treating every item in a series as identical.

The comparison tool places up to four models side by side. Compare dimensions, equipment format and any published stack information, then open the model page to add it to your project. A missing specification means it needs confirmation; it does not mean the feature is absent.

Choose around the training floor

A mixed selection can be considered station by station. Start with the activities your brief needs to support, shortlist alternatives, and ask the supplier to confirm the configurations against the final layout. Avoid adding two machines merely because they look different if they serve the same low-priority role.

  • Define the role of each station
  • Check adjustments and the intended users
  • Allow for loading, storage and access
  • Confirm plates, stacks and accessories in writing
  • Compare exact models, then revise the floor plan
